Emotional and Evaluative Models in Sports Media Discourse

This article considers the phenomenon of emotional evaluation in sports media discourse, with a particular focus on its stylistic features English and Italian languages. The topic has received much attention recently due to growing interest both ways is expressed different types discourse. Our study based texts published by 17 newspapers 11 periodicals during 2020 UEFA European Championship. Continuous sampling revealed 1444 cases means epithets: 720 724 units texts, respectively. A comparative survey language selected as ones expressing subjective attitudes authors newspaper articles was conducted. textual were examined. meaning each unit most likely semantic interpretation determined method analysis. contextual use contrastive obtained results led number generalizations. They demonstrated that epithets are widely used express evaluations thus effectively influence interlocutors Furthermore, analysis showed linguistic cultures generally similar terms evaluations, positive negative, which could indicate universality events coverage commentary. Finally, we found models typical discourse can be considered universal categories employed describe other devices tropes well.
